Timely post in the wake of the outrageous injust sentence given to the murderer of Oscar Grant.
The job of communists should be to both show history and help keep the spirit of revolution alive.
This video is a snapshot of a time of rebellion and revolution. It is not a dead documnet.
Now more than we’ve seen in a long time the youth are becoming angry -outraged at the betrayal and treachery of the ruling class and it’s lap dogs.Outrage at the prospect of facing hoplessness and despair,of having their their futures and opportunities in life being ripped off by the ruling class, outraged at wasteful destructive wars of imperialist conquest, outraged at naked injustice.
Communists have the duty to drive this point home by actions of solidarity and support.Spreading the ideas of revolutionary communist marxism far and wide.
We live in a time of Obama neo-liberal control and manipulation of people of color as well as the left in general. In Obama the neo-liberal wing of the ruling class has found itself a powerful winning formula for co-optation.
Our job is to smash the chains of such co-optation expose them for what they really are.Rip the masks off their faces and reveal in revolutionary concepts who and what these people really are…what they stand for.
The BPP was an inspiration and beacon of hope to millions of young people especially those of color. They gave it a good shot and tragically were destroyed by the forces of repression (COINTELPRO),internal strife, ideological disorientation.
Now,with a capitalist system in great crisis slowly not-so-slowly- crushing and squeezing the people to death,it is likeley we will see new tyes of BPP’s and militant Latino-undocumented workers/students youth groups forming similarly -in many aspects- the way the old BPP did.
Communists can show leadership and solidarity with young militant groups..esp.people of color by forging powerful links to these movements and with revolutionary communist marxist ideas fan the flames of revolution like a bellow fueling oxygen to forge different alloys together, like a blacksmith hammering and transforming service to the community to that of revolution.

This film clip is very powerful. It also raises an old question about the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense; how closely was their political strategy tied to their engagement with the media, and how did this engagement both give them great symbolic power and leverage, and at the same time sidestep questions of mass mobilization and institution-building? Putting it another way, how did tv let the Panthers ‘punch above their weight,’ and how did this limit their freedom of action in other areas of their work?
