Leaked Golden Dawn map reveals possible terror plots against immigrants and communist organizations

by Eric Ribellarsi

A new map has been leaked revealing a Golden Dawn plot for an unnamed operation targeting a number of communist organizations, football clubs, immigrant sites - all located in the Exarcheia district of Athens. Of the targeted, top sites include the offices of both the Communist Organization of Greece (KOE), the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA), and AEK (an anti-fascist football club notorious for fighting Golden Dawn fascists). The map itself color codes the various sites, designating a particular color for the cafés and parks where immigrants gather.

The map itself was leaked from the Greek police department who seized the map from Golden Dawn members. The map in question lists each of the sites as "targets." For what exactly is not explicitly known. An incident of mass terror targeting the enemies of these fascists very well could be the precursor to a larger show down with the fascist Golden Dawn.

This party has continued to grow in popularity, despite an increasingly polarized and militant resistance to it, among broadening sections of the society. It is a party with massive support in the riot police of Greece, who are a separate and highly ideological unit apart from the regular police of Greece.

Earlier this year, the Golden Dawn party was banned following their murder of a member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). That ban has meant a dangerous increasing support of the Golden Dawn, who paint themselves as suppressed patriots. That ban has also meant an alarming rallying of the left in Greece in support of the Greek EU-IMF dominated state, which itself remains firmly in power.

  • Is there an English translation of the source for this article available online?

Pavlos wasn't a member of (revisionist) KKE but of Antarsya, a radical left coalition including ML-KKE and KKE-ML (and some trotsk groups).

  • Redstar, thank you for that correction.. do you have any source? I believe I saw a few articles claiming he was part of KKE. Also, it is not true that KKE-ML and ML-KKE are inside of Antarsya.

Another correction: Golden Dawn have not been banned but members of its leadership were arrested for taking part in a criminal conspiracy and the Greek State may ban them for being a criminal organisation but they are still in parliament and function openly
    (with police protection like before)

Really, Ribellarsi and all people who really don't know stuff correctly about Greece, stop writing miselading crap. i don't know where Ribellarsi go his information from (did you google-translate the original source?), but it is misleading, either unintentionally, or in order to present SYRIZA and "K"OE (or rather ex-"K"OE, as they dissolved themselves in order to serve the social-democrats) as the biggest target of the state and the nazis and thus a revolutionary force (whereas they are counter-revolutionary sell-outs).
    a) as a commentator above said, Golden Dawn has not been banned, its leader and some MPs have been imprisoned, and some others were freed. They still have police protection, and some days ago an antifasicst march was held in Thessaloniki to block a Nazi gathering; the antifasist march was disrupted and encircled like 100 metres after starting by large police forces. On a side-note: any leftist groups (like SYRIZA and ANTARSYA) which demand the banning of Golden Dawn are only giving more reasons to the state to attack leftist political groups.
    b) Fyssas was not a member of KKE, he was a member of the (KKE-dominated) Metalworkers' Union and he lived in Perama, which is a workers' district with many communist residents. HIs friends and family have denied him being a member of KKE, neither of any other leftist political group.
    c) KOE does not have its offices in the targeted Exarchia area, but in another region of Athens, and actually no longer operates as an organization, as I have already said. SYRIZA's offices are not in Exarchia either, but the offices of SYRIZA's youth are. Actually, SYRIZA has minimal presence in Exarchia (or in any other region of Athens, for that matter). Get your facts straight.
    d) In the original report, it is mentioned that there are also other targets (the analysis of the picture is not very good so I can't make out the letters), including a libertaian social space called Nosotros, a leftist bookshop, the immigrants' social space, etc. However, you have chosen not to mention these spaces (or get information about them) as you want to picture the Kasama-affiliated "K"OE as the main target of the fascists. Thus, you present a counter-revolutionary, reformist and pro-European Union party's line as threatening towards the Greek state and capital, and elevate it to the level of a line that needs to be studied ad praised by militants outside Greece, as you have repeatedly done in many articles on your website.
    e) the only marxist-leninist communist group that is in ANTARSYA is EKKE. the rest groupings are trotskyist, althusserian or outright anti-communist. KKE (m-l) and M-L KKE do not participate in ANTARSYA, they have their own coalition along anti-imperialist lines and in opposition to the line upheld by both SYRIZA and ANTARSYA that says that the major goal is to overthrow the government and install through elections a leftist government within the European Union. the two m-l parties are very wrong in many things and can hardly contribute to a reorganization of the marxist-leninist-communist movementm, but still they are very honest in not supporting a line that seeks to confine the people's struggles in a parliamentary line.

  • Jouhou,

As you know, we are very far from events in Greece, and have a hard time getting information and understanding some of the current political developments in Greece. Sometimes we make mistakes. But to answer your question, no, I do not rely on simple Google translations of articles for sources. I questioned both comrades of both KOE and KKE-ML, and a Greek anarchist comrade, about these political developments. The article above is based on the information that is available to us. If we make mistakes, we correct them. Help us with that.

I have not (yet) written about the developments in Greece that you are referring to. I am trying to understandstand them better. Any decision which means the disappearing of communist organization and leadership strikes me as profoundly dangerous and at the very best mistaken. But it is not true that this organization has dissolved itself as you have claimed. KOE maintains its democratic centralism, its organizational structure, and its newspaper. But its public work as KOE has ceased, and that is something that I find deeply troubling.

I'm aware that KOE's offices are in Kerameikos (sp?). But the offices noted in the bourgeois press are associated with projects of KOE and SYRIZA, as well as areas where immigrants gather, are they not? I am happy to do a correction if I have made a mistake.

Actually the immigrant sites the you mention are in the article.. twice. And the other places are not mentioned because I could not make out the words, and neither could the Greeks I asked. I am aware KKE-ML has a presence in Exarcheia, so I specifically went and asked them whether they were targeted.

Jouhou, It seems that what is actually the case is that you disagree with my analysis and politics. Why don't we struggle on the level of line, instead of you nit picking every micro-wording about whether or not KOE is "even an organization" or whether this or that group from a blurry image is mentioned in a quick news article.

"Really, Ribellarsi and all people who really don't know stuff correctly about Greece, stop writing miselading crap."

the same words could be used for Kasama's articles on Nepal:

'Really, Ribellarsi and all people who really don't know stuff correctly abiout Nepal, stop writing misleading crap'

i think kasama are more interested in creating an illusion about the parties they support than in reality.

Anyone who follows the news in Greece knows that Pavlos was most definitely NOT a member of the KKE and that Golden Dawn has not been banned, they have only lost state funding. You completely discredit yourself when you "report" such blatant falsehoods.
